Our Team & History
Hamilton Neurofeedback is the passion project of owner Nigel Barnim, MSc Candidate in Psychotherapy.
After completing a degree in Psychology and experiencing the benefits of Neurofeedback first-hand, Nigel started Hamilton Neurofeedback to help others the same way he was helped.
He combines scientific training in psychology, complex dynamic systems, and the biological underpinnings of brain health with a passion for holistically informed perspectives, including ten years of meditation experience, published research on first responder mental health and psychedelics, and a passion for depth psychotherapy.
He has worked in the mental health field as a neurofeedback trainer, psychometrist, and support group facilitator. He is particularly passionate about working with clients who outwardly present as ‘successful,’ but inwardly struggle with mood and anxiety-related challenges.
“Following a significant brain injury, my therapist recommended neurofeedback as a potential treatment for the trauma and anxiety I was experiencing. It changed my life in a really good way. Over the course of 3 months and 30 treatments I went from struggling to sleep most nights and relying on anti-anxiety medication to get through the day, to sleeping like a baby almost every night with minimal need for any anxiety medication. My thinking is clear, my rational and emotional brains are communicating with each other again, and I am connecting important dots I was previously unable to. I’m more confident in life, whether at home, work, or other social settings. The brain injury robbed me of my confidence and emotional stability. Neurofeedback gave me my life back.”
Neurofeedback Testimonials
“Neurofeedback training has been one of the most rewarding gifts I’ve given myself. The sessions feel relaxing and surprisingly effortless. After completing 30 sessions, my quality of life has improved drastically. Even after only a few sessions, I’ve noticed many changes in myself, such as an increased ability to concentrate, better emotional control, and a shift in my general attitude towards life. I’ve transformed from a trauma-stricken individual to a more gratitude-filled person. Many anxiety-related symptoms have been reduced or resolved completely, including muscle tension, headaches, extreme fatigue, and sleep problems. Additionally, I find myself much more productive at work and more deeply engaged with people and hobbies. I am extremely grateful to Nigel for his knowledge and dedication to becoming an expert in this emerging service. Nigel is genuinely interested in helping his clients overcome their struggles, and I truly believe that this therapy has put my life on a better path.”
“I completed 30 sessions of Neurofeedback with Nigel. He was professional and respectful throughout. The sessions were pain-free and relaxing. I came to really enjoy the routine and the music and visuals involved in the treatment. I feel much better overall. I’ve been able to accomplish more goal-directed activities with less effort and distraction. I feel receiving neurofeedback improved my overall quality of life for the better!”
“I started neurofeedback when I was going through an enormously stressful time of my life. It had been recommended to me by a family member who had gone through the loss of a child and she felt this helped her enormously as well. I have suffered from anxiety for about 30 years and worked through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy both in groups and on my own. CBT provided some improvement to my depression and anxiety but it never really went away. When I started neurofeedback before even completing the 30 sessions I started to notice some significant improvement in my ability to manage the stress around me in addition to an improvement in concentration and focus. I now go for “touch ups” when I feel any anxiety creeping back into my life. I find the sessions very relaxing and peaceful. I actually miss watching the graphics as they are quite beautiful.
Nigel is one of the kindest, calmest neurofeedback practitioners you will meet and I highly recommend him and neurofeedback.”
